BIS CERTIFICATION

Scheme-II (Compulsory Registration Scheme - CRS)

BIS Registration for Electronics and IT Products

BIS Registration is essential for ensuring the quality, safety, and reliability of electronic and IT products in India. Managed by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), this certification is a mandatory requirement under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS). It ensures that products comply with Indian Standards, protecting consumers from substandard or unsafe goods while fostering trust and accountability.

Scheme-II (CRS)

What is BIS Registration?

The Bureau of Indian Standards oversees the certification process, which involves testing and quality checks based on specific Indian Standards (IS). Manufacturers are granted the right to use the Registration Mark with a unique registration number on their products, signifying compliance with BIS requirements.

BIS registration is critical for manufacturers to:

  • Ensure product quality and standardization.
  • Gain consumer trust by meeting safety and regulatory standards.
  • Comply with legal requirements before launching products in the market.

Who can Apply?

Manufacturers of any of products notified in Compulsory Registration Order located in India or outside India can apply for the grant of Registration under Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS).

BIS Registration Process

The BIS registration process involves:

1. Application Submission

  • Provide product details, specifications, and supporting documents.

2. Product Testing

  • Submit product samples to a BIS-recognized testing laboratory for conformity testing.

3. Self-Declaration of Conformity

  • Declare that the product meets applicable Indian Standards.

4. Grant of R-Number

  • Upon successful verification, BIS issues a license to use the Standard Mark.

5. Product Marking

  • Mark products with the BIS Standard Mark and unique registration number.

Documents Required

To apply for BIS registration, manufacturers need to submit:

    • Self-Declaration of Conformity.
    • Product test report from a BIS-accredited lab.
    • Manufacturer’s details (name, address, business activity).
    • Authorized signatory details.
    • List of models or product variations.

Why is BIS Registration Important?

  1. Compliance: Mandatory for products listed under the CRS scheme before entering the Indian market.
  2. Consumer Safety: Ensures that products meet stringent safety and quality standards.
  3. Market Access: Required for domestic sales, imports of listed products.
